The restored Kan-O-Tex service station is located at 119 N Main Street in Galena.  They sell sandwiches, snacks, antiques, Route 66 and Car's items, including several made by local craftspeople and artists. Outside the building there will be several vehicles, including the mining boom truck that inspired the character "Tow Mater" in Radiator Springs from the movie Cars.

  • Howard "Pappy" Litch Park

The Howard "Pappy" Litch Park is located at 5th and Main in downtown Galena.  The park is currently still in the development stages as the Chamber of Commerce is working to get the park finished.  Fountains and lights will be added to the park in the near future.  The park has two historic markers regarding Route 66.  The first , is one of only 3 remaining Original Route 66 markers that were placed on the original route at time of construction and the Will Rogers Route 66 Monument.


  • Galena Mining and Historical Musuem

The Galena Mining and Historical Musuem is located at 319 W 7th Street located on Route 66.  The musuem is housed in the Old Katy Depot that was originally located on North Main street  The musuem is full of mining artifacts and full of rich history of "the Oldest Mining Town in Southeast Kansas"

  • Southeast Kansas Nature Center

The historic scout cabin in Schermerhorn Park has been transformed into a wonderful nature center.  Animal and plant exhibits native to the area are displayed throughout the center.  Exploration drawers are filled with hands-on materials to give visitors an opportunity to learn about nature up close.  Environmental education classes and workshops are offered each month.  The adjoining park grounds, trails, cave and creek make a perfect setting for science and nature studies.  Visitors are pleasantly surprised with the wide variety of activities and materials available.

The Nature Center is located 2 miles south of Galena.
